Children's dentistry
First visits, cleanings, sealants and fluoride, with time for questions. Provided by our general dentists.
Book onlineWho does it and how long it takes
Our general dentists see children of every age, and Dr. Quintero runs the Saturday children's mornings. None of our dentists is a pediatric dentist; when a child needs one, we refer.
About 30-45 minutes.
What happens
- A first visit by the first birthday, or when the first tooth comes in.
- We count teeth, check the bite and show the parent how to brush at home.
- A cleaning and fluoride varnish, and sealants on the back teeth when they come in.
- Every step is shown and explained before it happens, and a parent can stay in the room.
Afterward
- No eating or drinking for 30 minutes after fluoride varnish.
- Sealants can feel slightly high for a day.
Side effects and risks
- Fluoride varnish can briefly tint teeth yellow until the next brushing.
Alternatives
- Fluoride toothpaste at home only, without varnish, for children at low risk of cavities.
Insurance
Children's check-ups, fluoride and sealants are often covered at or near 100%. Check your benefits before you book.
